President's Welcome
The Australian Property Institute (WA) Division's 2010 Regional Conference will be held in the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder from 6 – 8 August and will focus on the regions unique industry, heritage and culture.
This year’s conference programme builds on the excellent feedback that has been received from previous events – with expert presentations on all aspects of land use in the region. Presentations will be delivered both at the conference venue and during site visits.
There will be ample networking opportunities in a very comfortable and social environment. API Members active in the region have contributed to the programme which will also encourage Delegates to take some additional time out for recreation and relaxation whilst visiting the region.
Kalgoorlie-Boulder is Australia’s largest inland city and is the heart of gold mining in Australia. The city was founded in 1893 during the Yilgarn-Goldfields gold rush, and is located close to the "Golden Mile".
Since the discovery of gold in 1893 Kalgoorlie-Boulder has developed into a major service hub for Western Australia's active resource industry as well as an importance tourist location due to its unique history and architecture.
The theme of the conference is “THE GOLDFIELDS: PROSPER OR PERISH IN THESE GOLDEN TIMES” and brings together speakers who will present on all of these important contributors to the region. They will paint a picture of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s rich history and the drivers for the future growth and development of the region.
The Conference Organising Committee have put together an excellent program that will highlight the opportunities and the challenges facing the region. The conference will be immersed in the culture, history and ‘feel’ of a city that on one hand is a leader in industry and on the other holds true to its unique origins.
I look forward to welcoming you to Kalgoorlie-Boulder for this event, which will undoubtedly continue to grow the tradition of highly successful and enjoyable regional events conducted by the Western Australian Division of the API.
Ross Hughes FAPI, President - Australian Property Institute (WA Division)
